How race time prediction works
It converts one known performance to another distance while accounting for the usual decline in sustainable speed as distance increases.
What the Riegel formula is
The Riegel model multiplies a known time by the distance ratio raised to an exponent of 1.06. It is a simple deterministic model, not an AI estimate.
Why estimates weaken across very different distances
The further the target race is from the source performance, the more endurance, running economy and distance-specific training affect the result.
Why a 10K does not guarantee a marathon
An equivalent marathon time assumes sufficient volume, long runs, fueling and pacing. A fast 10K alone does not confirm those foundations.
How to use a prediction when setting a goal
Compare your goal with a recent performance over a similar distance, then check it against training history, long runs and consistency.
